Big CHEER for Rob Cameron!!! – WYSAA Team Manager
(Below report, images and video provided by Rob! He even had time to manage the team!!!)
(Webmaster’s apology if I have missed anybody)

Just got home. A bit exhausted but proud of all our young athletes who competed in the NE ESAA Combined Events qualifier in Middlesbrough.

It’s a real emotional roller coaster with athletes cracking PBs out one minute and being disappointed the next.

We took 10 young athletes away this weekend.

In the Junior boys we had Combined Events debuts for James Simms and Alfie Edwards.

Alfie unfortunately had to withdraw after a knee injury.

James went on to finish 9th with a points total of 1988.

In the junior girls a debut for Leah Atack saw her finish 17th with some great PBs, safe to say a hard 800m let her down, dropping from 9th.

Cruelty struck an awful blow for Megan Taylor, finishing 5th and 1 point of qualification.
In her own admission she had a poor second day, but we’re all proud.

Inter boys saw Aran Thomas have a strong lead after day 1, but again cruelty struck and Aran had to withdraw from day 2 with a foot injury, but we are due big things from Aran in the future without a doubt.

The stars of the day were our inter girls, qualifying as team winners with some outstanding individual performances.

Rhea Southcott posted a GB class performance just missing 5000 points.
A difficult javelin put paid to Rhea’s goal but people remember this name!

Katie Joyce had a storming 800m to take 3rd place and team mates for ESAA CE finals Sian Horrex in 7th and Jess Rayner in 11th secured the final spot. Well done girls!

Our only senior over the weekend was Rebecca Lister who ground out a great result in 8th, running her final event with an abductor injury.

I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again, these athletes are a credit to their parents, Schools, clubs and to WYSAA.
Thanks to all of you, I had a great weekend.
